Why IFRS 18, and Why Now
IFRS 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements replaces IAS 1 for annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027, with the comparative year restated. It changes how every IFRS reporter shows profit: five categories of income and expense, two new required subtotals, management-defined performance measures disclosed and reconciled in the notes, new rules on grouping and splitting line items, and changes to the cash flow statement. In India, ICAI has issued an exposure draft of Ind AS 118 on the same lines. Reporting teams in GCCs, ACCA students (IFRS 18 is in FA) and CA students all need to work with the new format.
